Introduction

AICTE has approved admission of 60 students per year in the branch of Civil Engineering from the year 2006. The importance of Civil and Municipal Engineering in today’s environment can not be over emphasized.  The mother of all disciplines in Engineering and Technology, Civil Engineering has, perhaps, contributed to social development of mankind to its utmost. Although it is considered among the basic engineering disciplines right from the initial human development, it still remains essential and relevant to the Society and has been contributing to man’s efforts to make the world a better  place to live in.  In fact, without suitable technological development in various areas of Civil Engineering discipline , it would be unimaginable to attend structural sophistication leading to tall structures of today, earth quake resistant structures, dams and bridges, water resource management, controlled irrigation systems , use of canals for irrigation, flood control and disaster management, potable and drinking water supply to populated and other areas, drainage and waste management Public Health Engineering, side by side with roads for fast and effective communication and decent living in human society.

Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology is well equipped with 50m X 20m Hydraulic Laboratory with Water Harvesting system for teaching Water Resource Engineering along with all other Civil Engineering subjects.
